In accordance with the educational principle of ¡°meeting the market demands and fostering the applicable personnel,¡± the School of Adult Education has become an integrated part of CSUFT to cultivate high-level talents. Since 1960, it has been achieving magnificent success by sticking to the educational spirit of "multi-level, multi-form, high-quality" according to the tenet of "education serves the society". It has made great improvement in adult higher education with record of formal schooling, higher self-study exams, continuation education for technicians, in-service training for administrative personnel and higher education with professional certificates as well as practical technical training. It offers over30 majors for both undergraduate course and college course, open to the whole society for enrollment.So far, it has cultivated over 10,000 undergraduates and college graduates for the country and trained over 6,000 relevant personnel, such as forestry leaders at county and departmental level, engineers, managers of forestry areas and managers of forestry and industrial factories. There is an overall enrollment of 5,800 undergraduates and college students.

As one of the 14 secondary units of the University, the School of Adult Education has been undertaking the responsibility of educating adults and putting them under centralized management by specialized departments. It has a stuff team of 26 specialized administrators, 4 working stuff members and experienced teachers from other faculties and colleges. The leading team is composed of 3 members all with senior titles and 3 members with 3 junior titles, who are professors or associate researchers. The structural organizations of the School are set up as follows: the School Office, Academic Affairs Office, Correspondence Center, Student Affairs Office, Self-Study Exam Office, Admission Office, Continuation Education Section, Administrative Section. With the coordination and decisiveness of the team of the School leaders, the School has been implementing a relatively independent management model under the charge of a vice President of the University.

With the support of outstanding teaching resources of the university as well as its broad social effect, the School of Adult Education aims to extend its educational function and provide multi-level, high-quality education and training for the society, to enhance its development with its own characteristics.

With the guide of social and economic needs, the School has been gaining extensive economic and social benefits, aiming to cultivate high-quality and creative talents for the society by joint efforts and aggressiveness. It will keep abreast with the times and press ahead with continued reform by standardizing school management and strengthening the teaching stuff and perfecting the teaching quality comprehensively. Due to its outstanding performance, the School has been highly praised by relevant superior educational and administrative departments. In 1996, it was awarded ¡°Excellent School for its Correspondence Center¡± by the State Forestry Bureau during the adult education appraisal organized by the National Educational Committee. In 1997, it was awarded ¡°Excellent School of Adult Education¡± by the Provincial Educational Committee¡±. In 1999, it was awarded ¡°Excellent School of Adult Education among Forestry Universities¡±. It was awarded for its excellent enrollment and administrative management by the Educational Committee of Zhuzhou City and the Admission Office of Changsha City. The School has been attaching great importance to both teaching and scientific research and actively deepening the educational reform. It has been taking the leading position in the field of scientific research and academic achievements in adult education not only all over the province but also among national forestry universities and colleges.150 essays and articles have been published since 1984. 6 projects on research of adult education have been undertaken at provincial and departmental levels, among which 1 got the 2nd Prize and 2 got the 3rd Prize.The School has been promoted to be the StandingSchool Member and Deputy Director-General of the National Forestry Educational Society, the CouncilMember of Higher Education Institutions Adult Education in Central-South Area, Deputy Director Member of the National Forestry Adult Educational Committee, Deputy Editor of Chinese Forestry Education (monograph on adult education), the Standing School Member and Deputy Director-General of the Higher Education Institutions Adult Education Research Association of Hunan Province. It will advance in giant strides and do a still better job by grasping strategic opportunities and deepening the opening-up and modernization and catching up with the times.
